Sérgio Sette Câmara will move to the DAMS team for the upcoming FIA Formula 2 Championship season, the Brazilian’s third in the feeder series.

The recently appointed McLaren test and reserve driver’s move to DAMS was widely expected following his post-season test outing for the French squad in Abu Dhabi.

Having finished twelfth overall in his rookie F2 season in 2017 with one victory and a further podium finish for MP Motorsport, Sette Câmara joined series returnees Carlin Motorsport for 2018 as teammate to the highly rated Lando Norris.

He could not repeat a return to the winners’ circle, but in a much more consistent season Sette Câmara ran close to Norris’ pace, claiming eight podium finishes and finished sixth overall in the Drivers’ Championship standings.

“We are excited for Sérgio to come on board with us,” said DAMS team principal Jean-Paul Driot. “We have followed him for several years and in 2018 he demonstrated his impressive speed with a lot of podium finishes.

“The goal is to fight for both championships, and Sérgio should be in the battle for victories at every race.

“We hope to give him the best opportunity to showcase his skills next year, and earn an F1 drive in the near future.”

With the team recently confirming it had retained the services of Williams F1 reserve driver Nicholas Latifi for a third season, DAMS becomes the fourth F2 team to finalise its complete driving line-up for 2019.
