Charouz Racing System has announced a new tie-up with Sauber to form a young driver development programme. The Czech outfit will also expand its operations and enter in the new FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The Prague-based team enjoyed an encouraging debut Formula 2 Championship season, finishing sixth in the Teams’ standings with Ferrari academy drivers Antonio Fuoco and Louis Delétraz behind the wheel.
Ferrari Driver Academy pilot Callum Ilott has been confirmed as part of an all-new Formula 2 Championship line-up for the 2019 season. The Briton had a one-off Formula 2 Championship outing in 2017, driving for the Trident team at his home event in Silverstone where he finished out of the points in both races.
Ilott drove for the ART Grand Prix team in last year’s GP3 Series Championship, scoring two wins and seven podiums and finishing third overall behind teammates Anthoine Hubert and Nikita Mazepin – who will also graduate to the F2 grid with BWT Arden and ART Grand Prix respectively.
The 20-year-old will be paired with another GP3 Series graduate in the form of American driver Juan Manuel Correa (pictured).
The 19-year-old, born in the Ecuadoria’s capital city Quito, struggled after graduating full-time to the GP3 Series last year with Jenzer Motorsport, finishing twelfth overall in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
