Formula 2 cellar-dwellers Trident have finalised their driving line-up for the 2019 season, announcing the appointment of Swiss racer Ralph Boschung as teammate to the already-confirmed Giuliano Alesi.
Boschung has forged a rather unfortunate reputation of being something of a journeyman racer in Formula 2. His forty race starts have netted a total of ten points’ finishes, with a trio of sevenths being his best results.
The 21-year-old graduated to Formula 1’s feeder series in 2017 with Campos Racing. A pair of eighth-placed finishes in Baku were followed by seventh in the Feature Race at the Red Bull Ring, however a subsequent loss of form saw him dropped by the Spanish squad before the season-ending round in Abu Dhabi.
He returned to the grid in 2019 with Dutch outfit MP Motorsport. A strong start to the season saw him finish in the points in each of the first four races, but a string of reliability issues in the subsequent rounds dented his campaign. He was replaced by Niko Kari for the final two rounds of the season, however the Finnish youngster failed to achieve any better.
The 2019 Formula 2 Championship grid has just three seats to be confirmed: one at Campos Racing and both seats at MP Motorsport.
