Dorian Boccolacci will race full-time in this year’s FIA Formula 2 Championship after being signed on as Jack Aitken’s teammate at the Campos Racing team.
“I am finally really happy to say that I will take part of the FIA F2 Championship this season with Campos Racing,” said Boccolacci.
“It was not easy to arrive at this stage but we finally made it, thanks to everyone who made it possible. I am sure we can make a good job this season together.
“The team is really professional and we have the same target so we will work as much as possible to get it as soon as possible.
“I really like the mentality of the team, I am half Spanish from my mother side, so I can speak Spanish with all the team.”
The Frenchman graduated to the Formula 1 feeder championship midway through the 2018 season with MP Motorsport, replacing ex-F1 driver Roberto Merhi. Despite his strong form in the third-tier GP3 Series earlier that season, he couldn’t replicate his form with the struggling Dutch squad and finished in the points just three times.
He tested for MP Motorsport at the end-of-season Abu Dhabi test and had a three-day pre-season hit-out with Campos Racing at Jerez before his signing was announced.
Boccolacci’s former employers, MP Motorsport, are the final team to announce their drivers for the 2019 season. The team spent the Jerez pre-season test running IndyCar refugee Jordan King and 2018 Toyota Racing Series runner-up Richard Verschoor, with the duo later joined by Indian racing driver Mahaveer Raghunathan for the second test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
