Entry submissions for the 2020 Supercars Championship season have officially closed.
Teams were required to submit plans for their Racing Entitlements Contracts by 5pm AEDT today to indicate their commitment for their respective licenses to contest the full season.
While it is possible for further trading and purchases of RECs to occur, a minimum of 23 entries have been officially confirmed.
In the wake of the news that Kelly Racing will cut its four-car programme to two entries and Garry Rogers Motorsport confirming its exit from the championship, further shuffling of the RECs sees expanded efforts for Team 18 (pictured above) and Brad Jones Racing.
Matt Stone Racing and Team 18 have each purchased one of the two Kelly Racing RECs handed back to Supercars, while Brad Jones Racing has taken over the Jason Bright-owned REC that was previously leased to MSR.
It is believed that MSR may purchase a further REC to expand its team to two cars next season – taking the grid to 24 cars – subject to Supercars agreeing to a new ride-sharing rule change that will allow the team to enter different drivers in the second car at particular rounds.
“An additional three Racing Entitlements Contracts (RECs) are available for negotiation and purchase over the coming weeks, and with the already-announced second Team Sydney entry to come, the projected grid size is [expected to be] a minimum of 24 cars,” a statement from Supercars reads.
“Supercars is, of course, disappointed to see GRM exit the Championship. Hall of Fame Member Garry Rogers has made a long and storied contribution to the sport and we wish him all the very best.
“The composition of the 2020 grid and a detailed entry list will be confirmed before the end of the year.”
