Formula 1’s return to the Imola circuit for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will run to a condensed two-day timetable.

The circuit, which formerly hosted the San Marino Grand Prix until 2006, is one of four circuits – along with Mugello, the Nürburgring and Algarve – to find itself added to the ever-changing Formula 1 calendar which has been severely impacted by the global COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic that forced the cancellation of multiple Grands Prix.

The Italian circuit’s inclusion on the 2020 schedule was announced last month and its race is set to take on the weekend after the Portuguese Grand Prix.  In order for all personnel to complete the nearly 1500-mile road journey from Portimão to Imola, series organisers have opted to condense the schedule at the latter.

Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix 2020 – Provisional Schedule
Event Dates 30 Oct – 01 Nov 2019 Free Practice Session 1 Sat 10:00-11:30
Qualifying Sat 14:00-15:00 Race (63 laps) Sun 13:10-15:10

Session times quoted in Central European Time (GMT + 01:00)

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix weekend will feature a single 90-minute practice session on Saturday morning before the usual qualifying session in the afternoon.

The 63-lap race, likely to be run on the circuit’s current layout that bypasses the Variante Bassa chicane, will take place at 13:10 local time.  This is two hours earlier than is traditionally the case for continental European events, but has been shifted forward given the much shorter daylight hours at that time of year.
